When a repair makes sense
Damage is limited to one area, the underlay and battens are sound, and the roof hasn't needed repeated fixes.
When it's time for a re-roof
Slates are slipping across the roof because of nail fatigue, the underfelt has perished, or patch repairs keep failing. Re-roofing can often reuse good slates.
When a new roof is the answer
The covering is at the end of its life, the structure needs work, or you're extending or converting the loft.
